Pastor George’s Up Close and Personal Encouraging Words from the Word 10/19/16

1 Corinthians 13:10-12(NIV)

10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

Here Paul likens the differences  between our incomplete present spiritual life and our future complete  life as spirit in Gods kingdom to the differences between a physical child and an adult. Just as a physical adult understands many things that a child cannot, when we are spiritually mature in God’s kingdom we will understand things that happen in our physical life that make no sense to us now.

Some of you may know that I am bi-vocational. I am a pastor and have a ministry on the internet with my wife Sharon, who is also a pastor. Besides that, I have a job in a local grocery store. Years ago when God was revealing to us what part of His work He wanted us to do, the leading from the Holy Spirit was that He wanted us to be in the ministry full time. Following His lead, we did clearly supply information on how to donate to the ministry on the web sites we were using. But the donations never came in. The leading from the Spirit continued to be that God wanted our brothers and sisters in Christ to support us. In addition, the leading was that we were to continue the work the Father had given us to tell Christians about His love. And in addition to that, for me to get a job with a paycheck outside the ministry.

So back to verse 12. Even now I only understand what happened in part. If God wanted certain people to support us and He knew that they would not why did He tell us that was His will? And when they did not support us, why didn’t He make them?  I do understand what part of the Father’s work He has given us to do, and we have been faithful in doing His will for the ministry. I also understand that in this physical life there are bills to pay. Even though physically I’m close to 60, spiritually I still am a child. Some things God does I understand and some things I do not. However, when I am complete in God’s kingdom, then I will know fully.

In His love and service,

Pastor George
