Living the great commission is tough, but God makes a way, #3

1John 4:15-16 are wonderful words from the apostle who knew Jesus as Savior, Lord, Teacher, Companion and Close Friend.  Truly John teaches that if we love God, He loves us and lives in us just as we live in Him.  We never have to be alone or feel unsupported again.  We can be secure and comfortable in His love, and that gives us a huge reason to walk side by side with Him now and forever.  We can serve Him and the Kingdom, meaning we can do things.  We can also be in relationship with Him and the rest of the Trinity, which gives what we do deeper meaning.

Jesus’ act of love and sacrifice shows how deeply committed He, the Father and the Holy Spirit are to us and our being with them forever.  They loved us before we loved them, and they so want us to love them not only in worshipful ways but in up close and personal ways, too.  We do, John did, and we pray you do, too.

Scripture:  1 John 4:15-16

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.  And we have known and believed the love God has for us.  God is love, and he who abides in love, abides in God, and God in him.

Let’s Pray

Father God, help me to live in love and to embrace and embody all that love is.  Help me to be a right example to all You send across my path, be they unbelievers, seekers or believers.  For unbelievers, let my life be a silent witness of all that You are and the blessings Your way of life brings.  For seekers, let my life be an example of one that has seen and endured hard times and yet has remained faithful to You because of Your love and our relationship.  For believers, may my life reflect that there’s more to Christianity than repentance from sin and obedience.  May I be filled with hope and the joy that only comes from being Yours.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Things to Think, Pray and Journal About

1.  How would you react if Jesus showed up in person?  Would you hug Him?  Would you welcome Him to your home and sit down for a chat?

2.  How often do you talk to Jesus while going about your daily life?  What do you talk about?

3.  What’s the blessing or benefit to you that Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit live within you?

4.  How deep is your love for God and all that He is?  Can you put it into words?

5.  How do you know how much God loves you?  Can you feel His love?
