Being overwhelmed is tough, but God makes a way

David knew that it was God who got him through his hard times.  No matter whether it was Saul pursuing him or later enemies ganging up on him, David knew that God was in control of his life and the work He had given him to do and be.  The same is true for you as well.  No matter what the circumstances, no matter what the pressures on every side, God is there to get you through it.  Likely, He will not remove the overwhelming issues, but He will help and guide your path through the problems you face just like He did for David and countless others in His word.

As Christian Counselors, we know the first thing you need to do is feel safe.  God is safe, and you can trust Him to keep you safe no matter what you are facing.  Also, with God and all that He is, you are not alone in your circumstances.  While your troubling times may not change for a while, you can and will feel better about them because the Power of the universe has it covered.

Encouraging Scripture: Psalm 9:9-10

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.  And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;  for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Let’s Pray

Father God, thanks to You, Jesus and the Holy Spirit for being there for me always.  I am overwhelmed, and I ask You and all that You are to minister to me so that I can break free and do and be what You have for me to do and be.  Grant me all that I need to move forward, including trust and faith in You to take up where I leave off and resolve these troubling times of my life.  In Jesus name, amen.

Things to Think, Pray and Journal About

1.  Did you know feeling overwhelmed means that your life is in turmoil?  Can you see that you need to focus off your problems for a while so that you can regroup and practice serenity prayer living?

2.  Did you know Jesus got overwhelmed and experienced other strong emotions at times?  Did you know He stopped whatever He was doing to find a quiet, uninterrupted place to regroup and pray?  Check out John 11:41b-42.

3.  Can you ask God to help you set priorities in your life so you don’t get overwhelmed?
