David knew God was here for him no matter what he went through, and God inspired David to write Psalm 23 to encourage us all. God is here with you in your chronic illness, and you can count on Him for encouragement, comfort, support and companionship. In the midst of you not feeling well, God can help you move forward to enjoy the life He’s given you to live as well as give you the strength to do and be what He has for you to do and be.
Encouraging Scripture: Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me besides the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; You rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Father God, I am trapped in an illness where things don’t work like they used to. You ministered to Jesus when he was in need, and Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to minister to us believers when we are in need. I ask You, jesus and the Holy Spirit to minister to me because I am chronically ill and need comfort, encouragement, support and release from what’s holding me captive. Help me to accept my illness and live with it according to Your plan and timing for my life. I know You promise healing or release from this illness, but I don’t know how or when You will act according to Your word. Thanks for being there for me and strengthening me so that, in spite of my chronic illness, I can move forward to be and do what You have for me to be and do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Things, to Think, Pray and Journal About
1. When you have your bad days, do you ask God to help you make it through? How did he do it and how did it help?
2. Have you asked God to send you encouragers who understand how hard it is to cope with chronic illness?
3. Have you asked God to guide your prayer and bible study to give you insight and encouragement?
