Abuse is tough, but God makes a way

David knew that man could let him down and betray him and even try to hurt him.  David also knew he could turn to God for protection, strength, comfort and encouragement.  The Lord will never let you down or hurt or betray you like your abuser has, whether the abuse has been sexual, emotional, physical or spiritual.

God is love, and love builds up and does not tear down or destroy.  He created you to love you, and He wants you to love Him back,  He knows it hard to believe God won’t hurt you like others have, and He is there to help you break free from fear about Him and others so that you can move on to be and do all that He has for you to be and do.

Sometimes all you may be able to do is think or say, “God, help!”, “Father, help!”, “Jesus, help!” or “Holy Spirit, help!”.  You can be sure your cry is heard, and He is here for you in your time of need and distress.

Encouraging Scripture: Psalm 27:1

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Let’s Pray

Father God, I have been abused and don’t know where to turn or who to trust.  I am afraid of new relationships because I am afraid of being hurt.  I know Jesus was also abused and ridiculed because of things He could not help such as being about Your business and the circumstances surrounding His birth.  I ask You, Jesus and the Holy Spirit to minister to me, to strengthen, comfort and encourage me while I am on the emotional and spiritual recovery path and breaking free from both the trauma and the cycle of abuse.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Things to Think, Pray and Journal About

1.  If your abuser is hurting you physically and you havent yet left to go to a safe place, can you ask God to empower you to love yourself enough to move away from the scene of pain and abuse?

2.  If your abuser hurts you verbally and gets angry, did you know that anger can become physical violence and you can be hurt?  Can you ask God to lead you to safe people who can help you find a safe place?
